In 1879, the general assembly passes a law making it a misdemeanor "for any person to sell, or offer to sell, or to bring into the State for the purpose of selling, giving away or otherwise disposing of belt or pocket pistols."

In 1983, The Tennessee Senate votes to make it a felony to kill a police dog.
