The Tennessee Historical Society has published the state's history since 1849, including the journals American Historical Magazine (1896-1904), Tennessee Historical Magazine (1915-1937), and the Tennessee Historical Quarterly (1942-present). We also present books on the state in partnership with the University of Tennessee Press.

Tennessee In the Civil War

Tennessee in the Civil War is a ten-volume series drawn from the best of almost 400 articles on the war from the Tennessee Historical Quarterly, which were published between 1942 and 2010. First in the series is an overview, also entited Tennessee in the Civil War. Additional volumes (to be published from 2011-2015) will examine great battles, controversial leaders, first hand accounts, occupation, experiences on the homefront, women's roles, the triumph of African Americans, and the legacy of the Civil War.
