Battle of Nashville 140th Anniversary Symposium

    As a commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the Battle of Nashville, the Tennessee Historical Society and the Battle of Nashville Preservation Society hosted a symposium to present new examinations, as well as assessments of past historiography, of the 1864 Atlanta-Nashville campaign and the late Civil War experience in Middle Tennessee and the western theater. 

    The symposium was held in Nashville, Tennessee on December 10-11, 2004 and was be organized around the themes of the context of the battle, the campaign and battle themselves, and their aftermath and legacy.  Co-sponsors included the Nashville Public Library, Metropolitan Historical Commission of Nashville and Davidson County, and the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area. Additional sponsorship was provided by the Bank of Nashville and the University of Tennessee Press.

    A special issue of the Tennessee Historical Quarterly featuring a select group of articles presented at this symposium was published in the Fall of 2005. Click here for a list of articles.
